About
MJE Studio is a multidisciplinary creative practice exploring the space where fashion, design, and cultural storytelling meet. Working across garment design, fabric printing, and visual research, the studio’s work studies how materials, process, and narrative can communicate legacy and identity.
From experimental textile development to one-off garments and limited capsule collections, MJE Studio blends handcraft techniques, archival study, and modern design thinking. Each project begins with curiosity, whether through sewing, print, or form and expands into a dialogue between concept and material. The studio also develops editorial and visual projects that document craftsmanship and community, championing stories of creativity, heritage, and the handmade.
The studio’s work has been featured by MCQ – Alexander McQueen, The Tab, and the London Borough of Waltham Forest’s Windrush 75th Legacy initiative.
Meet MJE
Marie Justina Eugene
Growing up in London in a Caribbean household, Marie explored textiles at both at school and home, developing a fascination with fabric, form, and the generational teachings passed down through her family.
She went on to achieve a First-Class BA in Philosophy from the University of Warwick, complemented by a placement in technology, where she began shaping her career in finance, technology, and AI governance, founding her professional journey at Microsoft.
In 2021, Marie launched her creative practice as a self-taught designer and maker, refining her sewing and fabric techniques and sharing her process through her platform, MJE Sewing. Her work explores garment construction, textile collage, and material storytelling, blending her analytical background with a deeply intuitive approach to making.
Marie is also a passionate advocate for social mobility, access, and representation within the creative and technology industries. As an ambassador and speaker, she continues to champion pathways that connect creativity, education, and opportunity, reflecting her belief that both fabric and innovation can be tools for change.
“I founded MJE Studio to create a space where design could evolve slowly: through research, making, and storytelling. Each piece or project begins as a study, a form, a texture, a historical reference and unfolds into something tangible, wearable, or visual. My practice is rooted in process; cutting, sewing, and printing by hand to use fabric as a language to explore culture, identity, and craft.
Alongside garment design, I work with textile printing, pattern development, and documentation, often combining photography and writing to reflect on material and method.
My work has been shared through collaborations with MCQ – Alexander McQueen, editorial features in The Tab, and community legacy projects such as Windrush 75th with the London Borough of Waltham Forest, which continue to shape my approach to making being purposeful, personal, and rooted in culture.”

Creative Ethos
-
MJE Studio is built on the belief that creativity is a form of inheritance. Each piece draws from cultural memory : Caribbean influences, British craft traditions, and the stories that live within textiles. Through making, we honour the makers, and movements that came before us.
-
We value the art of time. Every stitch, print, and cut is part of a slower, more intentional process, one that favours refinement over speed.
MJE Studio pieces are made to be lived with, learned from, and to last.
-
Excellence begins with care. From sourcing fabrics to mastering new techniques, the studio’s practice is rooted in precision and respect for material.
Each work reflects a balance of experimentation and discipline, where design, craft, and story meet.
-
MJE Studio is guided by a commitment to truth in creation, to make from a place of sincerity and curiosity.
Every project is an honest reflection of the maker’s journey: evolving, inspired, and unafraid to explore the spaces between art, fashion, and identity.
"At its core, MJE Studio is about making with meaning … tracing stories through fabric, thread, and time."
